Frozen Ink: facts vs. myths
So what's the deal with frozen ink?! (read that in a Seinfeld voice) Is all your tattoo ink garbage if it gets to you partially or totally frozen? Honestly..it really depends. Inks are stabilized, homogenized and preserved with a variety of different additives that can all behave differently when frozen. It's usually not that frozen ink goes 'bad' but rather that it will not smoothly and consistently mix back together. For the most part, this will never happen to black ink or wash sets so you are pretty safe to use those. If your color arrives, frozen and separated, we recommend allowing it to thaw at room temperature (take off the lid and seal to avoid messy pressure changes). Once it has totally thawed, shake vigorously. If it looks normal..it probably is! |
